Growth History
The Orontide Group had its beginnings in 1979 as a family business run by Serge and Sophie Madrigali. The first operation was Madco based at Henderson. Madco was originally focused on the machinist skills of Serge but evolved quickly to provide maintenance and repair services to a wide range of industries
In 2002 a Madco facility in Kalgoorlie was opened. This was to complement the services provided to existing mining industry clients and to create a local service for those operating in this region of WA. Such an undertaking has enabled clients to capitalise on the Group’s reputation for high quality responsive services locally.
Also in 2002, Madco Marine was formed to deliver specialist services to the marine and defence industries.
Soon after, Orontide purchased Blast Works which was later developed into AlphaBlast.
In 2004 the company established divisions of AlphaBlast and Madco Marine in Sydney to conduct work primarily for naval vessel refits at Garden Island (Woolloomooloo, Sydney). In the same year Orontide continued to develop its market share with the purchase of Ultra High Pressure Water (UHPW) equipment, utilised by AlphaBlast, complemented by full vacuum recovery system that provides an environmentally acceptable method of coatings removal.
In March 2007, Orontide diversified into the Iron Ore industry with the acquisition of Pilbara-based mechanical engineering firm Robil and with South West mechanical engineering firm Wovodich in December 2008. The company is actively pursuing further acquisitions that are aligned with its strategic direction.
